Potato Fortunes: Most Creative Award Seam Summer Miniapp Challenge 2024

Oct 15, 2024

Potato Fortunes by Seam User @roxanne is perhaps our most whimsical Miniapp yet. This light hearted potato creator combines the excitement and fantasy of an oracle’s predictions with rustic charm of a Mr Potatohead doll. There’s a reason it won Most Creative in Seam’s Summer 2024 Miniapp Challenge!

How to use Potato Fortunes:

  1. Select the characteristic of the potato you’d like to change

  2. Tap to view the available options

  3. Once you’ve created your idea spud, give it a name and continue to preview

  4. Click on the oracle at the bottom of the post to see your fortune!

What we love: Potato Fortunes embraces a silliness we absolutely love to see. Seam users love sharing their potatoes and comparing fortunes.

Quick tip: Have fun, and embrace the quirky nature of this Miniapp!

Technical Implementation Potato fortunes provides a ton of customization options to create your potato. Each layer is loaded in as a PNG, and then composed on a single canvas. To avoid increasing the binary size of the Seam application, each option is uploaded to our static storage bucket (as a miniapp developer, you don’t have to worry about asset storage, Seam handles that for you). Potato Fortunes is a great example miniapp for selecting many different options in the ComposerComponent.

All the code for Potato Fortunes is open source, and can be found in this Pull Request.
